Hunter River District Golf Association Incorporated
The Hunter River District Golf Association is one of the States oldest golf associations. The association was formed in 1925, but its origins date back to 1908, when some of our original member Clubs were part of the Northern Golf Association, which comprised all Clubs between Newcastle and the Queensland border.
In 1919, these original member Clubs and Clubs from the Newcastle area formed a new association known as the Newcastle and Hunter River Association.
In 1925 the Hunter Valley Clubs broke away to form the Hunter River District Golf Association, as it is known to this day.
From a humble 8 clubs the Association now boasts 16 clubs, with a membership of over 4000 affiliated male golfers.
The District covers an area stretching from Stroud, north of the Hunter River, down to Maitland and then basically tracks the New England Highway through to our extremity, Murrurundi. All in all, an approximate trip of 3 hours from one end to the other.
We have an array of 16 challenging courses, to please golfers of all levels. In recent times we have welcomed 2 resort style championship courses, in Cypress Lakes and The Vintage, who have complemented our existing courses.
All of our member Clubs welcome members of affiliated golf Clubs, as they do social clubs and social golfers. Contact can be made with our clubs by going to the Member Clubs tab for full details.
You will be made most welcome. |
