Liz White has won her fourth District Championship with a two shot victory over Scone’s Lyn Banks at Hunter Valley Golf Club today.

White, from the Vintage, was surprised to take out both the Open and Closed Championship. The Closed Championship is exclusive to HRDGA members.

“My putting has been very ordinary so I worked on something yesterday and it was a lot better today, even if I still did have two three putts,” she laughed.

“I’m pretty happy with an 8 over round given I went OB on 13 and had two three putts. It also helped that I had a great playing group with Jodie (Dunn), Katrina (Skinner-Oyston) and Helen (Haynes).

“It was a quality field today so to win today was really pleasing.”

Lyn Banks, who was crowed the Nett Champion with a fantastic 69, was also suprised with her win.

“I thought there’s a lot of players out here that are better than me, so don’t think too much about it,” she said.

“The last six months has been a struggle with my DOB (Date of Birth) syndrome, and injuries and problems with back and hips, in the midst of that, the swing went wherever, but I have felt good in the last couple of weeks, it was good today.”

Division Two Champion Jewel See also came into today’s championship not expecting much but she ended up with a trophy courtesy of her one shot victory over Hunter Valley course member, Wendy Wong.

“I think I got lucky overall,” the Shortland Waters member said.

“I didn’t think 97 was very good so I’m in shock, however I did putt and chip very well, plus I have played here a few times and I like it.”

Dungog’s Vanessa Keating was a late entry into the tournament but walked away with both the Open and Closed Trophies in Division Three.

Playing in her first Championship, Keating was delighted with her victory.

“”I had a fabulous day, with 38 points and the ladies I played with today were the best,” she said.

“They actually helped me relax and play a great game, I wasn’t even nervous.”

The 2026 HRDGA Championships continues tomorrow with the foursomes to be contested at Cypress Lakes.
