Hunter River District Golf Association Incorporated

The Hunter River District Golf Association is one of the States oldest golf associations. The association was formed in 1925, but its origins date back to 1908, when some of our original member Clubs were part of the Northern Golf Association, which comprised of all Clubs between the Newcastle and Queensland (Qld) border.

In 1919, these original member Clubs and Clubs from the Newcastle area formed a new association known as the Newcastle and Hunter River Association.

In 1925 the Hunter Valley Clubs broke away to form the Hunter River District Golf Association, as it is known to this day.

About - about

From a humble 8 clubs, the Association now boasts 16 clubs, with a membership of over 4000 affiliated male golfers, and 300 lady golfers.

The District covers an area stretching from Stroud, north of the Hunter River, down to Maitland, and then tracks the New England Highway through to our extremity, Murrurundi. All in all, this is an approximate trip of 3 hours from one end to the other.

In 2014 history was created when the lady members from 9 of our member clubs, elected to resign from the Newcastle Hunter Ladies DGA and affiliate with our District, a further four clubs followed shortly thereafter. The ladies are responsible in running their own events as a sub committee of the District.

This decision will be a forerunner in the State, after the State governing body, Golf NSW, amalgamated with the NSW Ladies Golf Association in 2010. Eventually, the amalgamation of the men’s and ladies country district associations will follow suit.

We have an array of 16 challenging courses, to please golfers of all levels. Since the nineties we have welcomed 3 resort style championship courses, in Cypress Lakes, and The Vintage and Hunter Valley, who have complemented our existing courses.

All of our member Clubs welcome members of affiliated golf Clubs, as they do social clubs and social golfers. Contact can be made with our clubs by going to the Member Clubs tab for full details.

You will be made most welcome and experience some real country hospitality.
