Kurri’s Women have won their first Rosella Shield Pennant title after a nail biting final round at Muswellbrook today.
Five teams started the day with a chance to take the flag, but it was Kurri, with a resounding 5-1 win over Singleton, that shut the door on the rest.
Team captain, Trish Wyper was thrilled with the win.
“It’s just so exciting,” she said.
“We were all so nervous at the start of play but our Ladies Captain Kriss Subat kept texting us all week with positive messsages and it really helped.”
Five teams, Kurri, Singleton, The Vintage, Scone and Hunter Valley were all mathematical chances of taking the title. In the washup, Kurri defeated Singleton, 5-1, The Vintage and Scone both squared their contests, while the Hunter Valley lost to Muswellbrook 5-1.
The final results meant that Kurri finished on 10 points, while The Vintage, Scone and Muswellbrook finished on 8 points with Hunter Valley and Singleton a further point behind on 7, Dungog/Cypress Lakes on 6 and Branxton 2.
In what was the most exciting finish in the Shield’s 12 year history, Trish Wyper was just glad it was all over.
“What a relief, now we can celebrate.”
In the undefeated player category, Kurri’s number two Renee Bean Wyper was undefeated for all seven matches, while Muswellbrook’ number 1, Liz White and Dungog Cypress Lakes’ number 4, Nikki Richardson were also undefeated however they only played 6 of the 7 rounds.
