Sue Wilks and Jodie Dunn have taken out the Open and Closed Hunter River District Foursomes Championship by one shot.
Played on Tuesday at Cypress Lakes Golf club, despite a shaky few holes on the back nine, the pair were able to hold off Moree’s Teresa Munro and Vicki Gall to finish with a score of 90.
The duo started their day with a fantastic birdie on the 1st however after finding trouble on the par four 13th the couple thought their title bid was over.
“We had a bad back nine which obviously hurt but we got there,” Singleton’s Dunn said.
“We are happy.”
“We are also a bit shocked, in the past the scores have been a bit better,” Wilks added.
In the Open Nett Championship, it was the visitors from Merewether, Sue Horton and Brenda Twiss who won in a four way tie with a score of 75.
They just squeaked past the Vintage’s Jen Jones and Kat Kendall however the local girls took home the Nett Championship closed title.
“That was a surprise,” Jones said.
“We combined well, there were moments of magic and there were moments where we just worked through it.”
Kendall said a touch of Jones brilliance helped them take home the trophy.
“On the 13th we were in the trees and Jen hit a fabulous shot and chipped in for a birdie, it was fabulous,” she said.
It was the pair’s first Hunter River title, and they are keen to return to defend in 2024.
“We’ll be back it was a great tournament,” Jones said.
